Dinacharya
The Ayurvedic regime of right living is designed for maintenance of health achievement of a long, healthy, active life, providing relief from pain and disease allowing satisfactory enjoyment of life and attainment of self - realization.
 
Time to wake up
It is advisable to wake up during Brahma Muhurta (between 300 am. to 600 am.). This is the best time for study and to gain knowledge.
 
Drinking water
Drinking water early in the morning according to one’s capacity cleanses the body by enhancing the elimination of toxic wastes.
 
Bowels
One should attend the nature’s calls. Elimination of urine and faeces cleans the body and cheers up the mind.
 
Cleaning of mouth
The soft brushes made cut of twigs of Arka, Khadira, Karanja Apamargo, etc. should be used for the purpose. Tongue and mouth should be cleaned by a long flexible strip of metal or plant. It not only cleans the tongue but also stimulates digestion. Mouth should also be cleaned properly.
 
Eye Care
Eyes should be cleaned with fresh water. To prevent eye diseases and promote vision. Wash also eyes with Triphala water every day.
 
Betel Chewing
Chewing of betel leaves with small piece of Arecanut (Khadira) and fragrant substances like cardemom, cloves, refreshes the mouth and enhance digestion.
 
Oil Massage
It is necessary to massage whole body with oil everyday. For massaging, Tila Taila (gingelly oil), Sarsapa Taila (Mustard oil), Narikela (Coconut oil) and medicated oils may also be used; Oil massage ensures softness and unctuousness of skin, free movement of joints and muscles, peripheral circulation and elimination of metabolic wastes.
 
Exercise
Regular exercise is essential for perfect health. It builds up stamina and resistance against disease, clears the channels of body (Srotas) and increases the blood circulation and efficiency of body organs, promotes appetite and digestion and prevents obesity.
 
Bath
Bathing improves enthusiasm, strength, sexual vigour, appetite, span of life and removes sweat and other impurities from the body. After bath one should wear clean clothes and smear the body with perfume. One should have regular shaving, hair cut, clipping of nails etc.

Diet
Diet should be regulated taking into account the habitat, season, age, habit etc. Diet should be balanced and the quantity should be according to one’s digestive capacity. Following points may be considered while taking food.
×   The food should be tasty, nutritious, fresh and good in appearance
×   Too spicy, salty and pungent food should be avoided
×   It should neither be very hot not very cold.
×   Liquid intake should be more frequent and in small amount
×   Heavy food should be taken in a limited quantity
×   Heavy food should not be taken at night.
×   The proper time for night meals is two to three hours before going to bed, after dinner, it is better to go for a short walk.
×   After meals, heavy physical work should be avoided.
×   Mind should be peaceful while eating.
×   Eat only when you are hungry.
×   Do not over eat.
 
Sleep
Food, sleep and abstinence are the three important factors to be considered in daily life to maintain good health. Following rules have to be followed while sleeping.
×   The bed room should be absolutely clean, well ventilated and away from noise and disturbance.
×   The bed must be neat, clean and free from bugs.
×   The mind should be absolutely free from worldly affairs and worries while going to bed. This may be achieved by praying to God at time of going to bed.
×   Sleeping ate at night leads to ill health.
×   A minimum of 8 hours sleep is required in 24 hours.
×   Sleep during the day should be avoided as far as possible. However, if one keeps awake at night! persons who is weak and ill, may sleep in the day time. Day sleep is not contra indicated in summer but in winter, the day sleep increases Kapha, thereby causing respiratory and digestive troubles.
×   It is advisable to massage the head, soles and palms with oil before going to bed.
 
Martial Life
Person should avoid extra marital sexual relationship and sexual intercourse with a woman during her menses, pregnancy, within one and half month after delivery, devoid of passion, older than one and suffering from disease.
 
Ritucharya
Seasonal changes bring about diseases and they may be prevented by adopting certain seasonal regimens prescribed by Ayurveda. The seasons classified mainly by the movement of the Sun. i.e. Dakshinayana and Uttarayana and are again subclassified into six seasons, viz. Sisira, Vasanta, Grisma, Varsa, Sarad and Hemanta. Hemanta and Sisira are cold seasons, Grisma is a hot season, Varsa is a season of rains. Sarada and Vasanta are moderate that is to say the days are moderately hot and nights are cold and pleasant.

Non-Suppressible Urges
There are thirteen natural urges. Suppression of which leads to many diseases as given below:
×   Suppression of urine leads to difficulty in passing urine, urinary stone, atony of bladder and inflammation of urinary tract.
×   Suppression of stool leads to pain in abdomen, indigestion, gas in abdomen, headache.
×   Suppression of flatus leads to pain in abdomen, indigestion, heart diseases, constipation or diarrhea.
×   Suppression of semen may produce a stone (Spermolith), pain in testis and difficulty in intercourse.
×   Suppression of vomiting produces different types of diseases like urticaria, giddiness, anaemia, hyperacidity, skin diseases and fever.
×   Suppression of sneezing may produce rhinitis and chronic cold, headache, sinusitis and diseases of respiratory system.
×   Suppression of eructation leads to hi-cough, pain in chest, cough and loss of appetite.
×   Suppression of yawning leads to diseases of the eyes, throat, ear and nose.
×   Suppression of hunger and thirst may lead to nutritional disorders and debility.
×   Suppression of tears leads to mental disorders! pain in chest, giddiness and digestive disorders.
×   Suppression of respiration may cause suffocation, respiratory disorders, heart diseases and even death.
×   Suppression of sleep causes the diseases like insomnia, mental disorders, digestive disorders and diseases of sense organs.
 
Ethical Regimen
A healthy mind is as important as a healthy body. Ayurveda prescribes certain rules for maintaining a healthy state of mind. This ethical regimen contains principles of right conduct that are applicable to all irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
One should suppress urges of greed! Grief! Fear! Fury, pride, shamelessness, envy and excessive passion. Observe self control and always speak truth. One should not harm others and should always act in a courteous and polite manner.
Dietetic and behavioral bad habits should be given up and good things should be taken up gradually. An intelligent person who seeks happiness should make a great effort to make good company and avoid the bad one.
 
Social Hygiene
Man is a social animal and so one has to work in the society in a manner which is conducive to better hygiene and sanitation of his community. This can only be achieved by individual’s own efforts as well as his cooperation with the concerned authorities (i) the house refuse should not be thrown at random! It should be consigned to its proper place (ii) the drainage should not remain blocked, (iii) Latrines and urinals should be kept properly cleaned; (iv) water sources should not be contaminated.
Concerned authorities should be immediately reported in case of outbreak of any infectious disease.
 
Panchakarma
Panchakarma is an unique Ayurvedic approach for the treatment of both acute and chronic diseases. In addition to this, it is also utilized for the preservation of health and promotion of longevity. This procedure is advocated to eliminate the metabolic wastes and toxins from the body! There by preventive occurrence and recurrence of disease.
Snehan, Swedan, Vaman, Virechan, Basti, Nasya and Rakta mokshana are procedures practiced under Panchakarma therapy.
 
Rasayana(Rejuvenation)
Rasayana stands as an answer to solve the problem of healthful longevity including mental development and resistance against disease. The observance of dietetics, hygienic rules are essential for the success of treatment prescribed for longevity of rejuvenation.
There are specific Rasayana for different age groups! Which help in restoring the loss of specific bio-values of respective ages.
